Artist: The Mutton Birds
Song: ngaire
(Don McGlashan)
The plane touches down
The lounge fills up again
With retired couples from the midwestern USA
They blink in the foreign light
And admire each other's shoes
I've seen a lot of new shoes today
You should have let me know
That you weren't getting on your flight
You should have called me so I wouldn't be calling you now
On this line you sound so strange
And I'm running out of change
I'm standing, but it feels like falling...
Ngaire I'm not lying to you
Ngaire I've been trying to do right from the start
And if you doubt what's in my heart you can break it open
But be careful when you do
'cause inside there's a girl who looks like you
You knew I had to come here
You knew there was no work at home
You said you'd join me when the coast was clear
Now I take the escalator down
I get the bus back into town
I'm as free as the planes up in the air
Is that the sun
That's rising on you now?
And did it shine
The day you changed your mind?
Oh Ngaire, oh Ngaire
Oh Ngaire I'm not lying to you
Ngaire I've been trying to do right from the start
And if you doubt what's in my heart you can break it open
But be careful when you do
'cause inside there's a girl who looks like you
inside there's a girl who looks like you
inside there's a girl who looks like you
inside there's a girl who looks like you
inside there's a girl who looks like you
looks like you
looks like you
